I cannot wait to share this week’s guest episode with you. La’Toya Guillory grew up as a latch-key kid with a single mom who worked two jobs to support her family. Because of her parent’s divorce, La’Toya decided when she was ten-years-old that she wanted to make a difference by either going into social work or going to law school. She landed on the former and received a bachelors degree in Child and Family Studies and her masters in human services with Specialization in Marriage and Family. But because she didn’t have a strong role model for marriage in her personal life, she thought marriage wasn’t a priority for her and decided she would have to give up any dreams of becoming a wife and mother. But when she met her husband, Kevin, she knew God had a plan for both of them to create a legacy together. Now they’ve begun a non-profit organization called Family Connection Inc. to help children between the ages of 16-21 successfully transition out of foster care by teaching them life skills to enter into the adult world. She also has a passion for casting a vision for your family, and believes it can be used as a powerful tool to create purpose and stability in a home.
Quotes From La’Toya
“My goal and my mission in life is to help people be the best version of themselves.”
“One of the things we say is… we have a vision for our businesses…each business has a business, a mission and even core values. But when we look at our families, the ones who set the stage for those businesses to be successful… a lot of families [are] aimlessly trying to figure it out.”
“If you can destroy a family, you can destroy a community.”
“A lot of our family values are embedded in us from birth.”
“You know, the enemy’s only going to do what he’s supposed to do; steal, kill and destroy. He doesn’t need our help to do it, but he’ll use us to do it. And if we’re not prepared for that, if we don’t understand who we are and what we’re doing, then it’s going to be easier for him to say, ‘Oh, let me just make her think like this. Let me make her feel unloved. Let me make him feel like he’s not a leader. Let me take their innocence away… let me come in and thwart their mindset and have them believe God is not real. Whereas if we were prepared and plan and said, ‘Hey, this is our family value. This is our family mission. Anything that comes against us has got to go.’ God’s given us the principles to live by and if you’re not seeing these principles in your life, then what are you valuing? What has your mission become?”
Scriptures and Resources
Then the Lord replied: Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. – Habakkuk 2:2
The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity–in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground–in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open up the heavens, the storehouse of His bounty, to send rain on you land in season and to bless all of the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. – Deuteronomy 28:11-13
Unless the Lord build the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guard stands watch in vain. – Psalm 127:1
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:33
