I was so excited to get to interview Lee Nienhuis and she did not disappoint! I felt like we were kindred spirits. Lee has written two books, Brave Mom, Brave Kids and her most recent book is Counter Cultural Parenting. She has a passion to encourage moms to be brave in praying for their kids to be warriors for Christ, even when you know that means a warrior must fight battles. She talks about how she realized that one day while she was praying and shares how she was able to overcome that fear and become a brave mom. Lee knows that Satan can use our fear as a weapon against us. He wants nothing more than for us to live in fear and complacency because that will never lead to being effective for Christ. I know this episode with Lee will inspire you to become the brave mom God has called you to be, as well as who your kids need you to be.
Quotes From Lee
“If we want to raise brave kids, then we are going to have to be brave moms.” This led her to question what it means to be a brave mom.
“Fear was designed to make us worship the object of our fear.”
“Satan can use our fear as a weapon against us.”
“Your children are a reflection of you walking around in the world, and that’s a very vulnerable place to be. It could be very prideful, too. And the Lord doesn’t want us broken or prideful.”
“Character problems are not just an out there problem, they’re an in here problem – in our homes. And society is made up of a bunch of homes. And I need to get my junk together. And if I want to see society change, then I need to get my junk together in my home.”
“We have to ask our kids hard questions and we need to be ready to hear hard answers.”
